We took our newbs (Heidi & Nicole) to Pinnacle Creek this past Spring, so Matt & I decided to sneak them out to Browning Fork (BF) (Here's the BF trail map) for a couple days while the weather was good. We'd ridden at BF (also known as Rockhouse) in July and felt it would offer a new challenge for the girls who are still trying to sort out their off-road game.
When we rode BF in July, we had high hopes for the single track trails, but were disappointed as we tried Trail #199 (entering from Trail #14) and found it to be well beyond our skills. Billy goats bench in wider trail - We went back to check out the single track Trail #148 (again entering from Trail #14) - took a quick peek and saw slippery wet concrete pavers marking the trail up the steep ridge, and decided the BF single track is intended for heros only.
NVTR wishes to thank all the trail riders that came out April 9 to enjoy a great day of trail riding and support the Optimist Club of King George, VA! The riders, sponsors and NVTR collectively contributed over $2,500 helping the Optimists "Bring out the Best" in our grade school kids. With beautiful skies, great food, and fun trail, everyone had a great day at Eagle Bay. NVTR will certainly be working hard again next year along with the Optimist Club to put on another fun event! Hope to see you there!
This year's Spring Trail Ride was about as perfect as it gets! The
trails were amazing, the weather was really nice, beautiful view of the
Potomac - a trail rider's dream. With the donations from participants,
over $3,500 was raised for the Optimist Club of King George, a great
cause - funding college scholarships for King George County's youth.
The Shenandoah 500 AMA Suzuki National Dual Sport was another ride for the record books this year! With Support from Suzuki USA, Clark manufacturing, Coleman Powersports, Dutrows Honda, Ellicott City Motorsports, Fredericksburg Motorsports, JT Motorsports, Loudon Motorsports, Mortons BMW, Ridersville Cycles, and Twiggs Cycles, there were plenty of giveaways to add a great conclusion to warm weather, record turn out, and record fund raising for the Mt. Solon VFD, Brandywine South Fork VFD, and the Riverside Methodist church.
NVTR thanks all the riders for coming out and helping make this another great event!
Finally, We ask for your help - We can't host this event without the support of the U.S. Forest Service - would you please take a moment to send the Ranger (Elwood Burge) and the Special Use Permit Mgr (Christian Canary) a letter or email thanking them for their support? These folks got the gates to all the roads we used opened in time for the event and worked closely with us to adjust our route to avoid the other events going on in the Forest last weekend.
When you contact them, please be sure to identify yourself and state you are a participant in the Shenandoah 500 Dual Sport trail ride.
