Scattered throughout the show we had close to 20 NVTR members, along with a few R&T Club and GMER members. The show was a little on lean side this year in regards to bike manufacturers making an appearance (other than the regular 4 big Japanese brands).
Although there were no KTM (factory), Husky or even BMW booths to be found, there were pretty good off road bike displays by Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki. Yamaha had this sweet cutaway version of their new 2010 YZ450F (see photo below, not from the show). JT Motorsports (Frederick, MD) and Ridersville Cycle (Berkeley Springs, WV) were on hand together with their own makeshift KTM display (see photo below). I bunch of us caught the Ducati stunt show which was pretty impressive (can you say throttle control?).
Over a dozen of us headed to lunch a couple blocks away to Fado (a nice Irish pub, see photos below) and enjoyed some good food and drink. Some of the group headed back to the show to go though the vendor area and see who could spend the least.
Thanks to all who came out, good times!

2010 Spring Trail Ride Prep Report - April 3rd
Written by Webmaster
Wednesday, 14 April 2010
The first of three Eagle Bay trail maintenance days is now complete. It amazing what can be accomplished in a couple of hours with twenty motivated men armed with the right tools. Joe Epperson coordinated the effort - yes, he shoveled as well (note the cigar in the picture). There were some very deep, water filled ruts that are now gone.
Deeter Mertz brought a Dingo which is a track driven mini front end loader that helped moved lots of soil. We split up into groups of three or four to keep guys digging rather than leaning on shovels. Overall a very successful work day. In addition to filling in ruts a big piece of pipe was excavated from the ground by a group equipped with a Quad. I understand the pipe removal was a pretty big effort - well done guys. A bunch of face slappers and downed trees were cleaned from the trail helping return the Eagle Bay riding area to the premium single track ride that everybody has come to know over the years.
The great part about these work/ride days of course is riding and meeting new riders. The weather was perfect and everybody got plenty of seat time. As always on work days, NVTR provided lunch - there was plenty of food and ice cold drinks.
Two more work/ride days are scheduled: April 17th & May 1st. NVTR members please come out and join the fun. All of this work is being done in preparation for the charity Spring Trail Ride held on Sunday, May 2nd. All of the proceeds benefit the Optimist Club. Come out and join us!

2009 Shenandoah 500 National Dual Sport

The 2009 AMA KTM Shenandoah 500 National Dual Sport was another ride for the record books this year! The weather was no less than perfect for the entire weekend.
NVTR would like to thank all the riders for coming out and helping make this another great event!
The Northern Virginia Trail Riders (NVTR), joined by members of the Family Offroad Riders of Prince William County (FORPWC), the Potomac Vintage Riders (PVR), and the Road and Trail (R & T) Club, launched 40-plus vehicle and 50 riders in this year’s National Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25.
Joining 140-plus other parade units, this caravan passed-in-review before Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and thousands of cheering spectators.
Former NVTR Secretary John Roberts started this ball rolling, suggesting an off-road motorized parade unit two years ago. This second appearance included more than twice as many vehicles and riders as the first.
Bald Eagle State Forest (BESF) is about 3 hours north of Fairfax, VA in between Mcalisterville and Beaver Springs Pennsylvania. Tom Heimbach's Father (Paul) has property about 5 minutes from the BESF trail head, contact Tom if you are interested in a road trip... there's some good riding behind Pauls home on Shade Mountain. There are about 35-40 miles of (some pretty technical) trails at BESF. No riding alone, some dropoffs are dangerous. Terrain is kinda like Taskers Gap but a little less rocky Trails are well maintained. Trail map is OUT OF DATE Pay attention to blazes on trails. Scenic views are breathtaking
